(STREET FESTIVAL)

Bands who are interested to perform live on stage at the Carnival of Cultures 2012 can hand in applications from October 2011 on.

The street festival of the Carnival of Cultures has four different stages » Bazaár Berlin, » Eurasia, » Farafina and » Latinauta. They are considered as a platform for the vivid music szene of Berlin where musicians present not only traditional music and dances. Moreover they take elements of global music (such as electro, rock, pop, hiphop etc.) apart, examine the pieces and then reinvente them and reassembled the parts with traditional sounds thus creating something entirely new.
Every year also musicians from all over the word enrich the program with their performances although the number of guest groups is limited due to the reasons explained below.

Before you fill out the » APPLICATION SHEET we would like to inform you about the financial situation the Carnival has to deal with and the consequential effects for the performing artists.
Although the event attracts hundred thousands of visitors every year it is heavily underfinanced.
All groups performing at the street festival get a small fee for their presentation. We can not cover the costs for transportation but provide artists with simple accomodation.
Due to these circumstances there is only a limited number of guest groups in the street festival, most groups taking part are located in Berlin. The appearance of guest groups on one of the four stages is normally based on special agreements (sponsorships by embassies, tour arrangements without any funding from our side, etc.).

The mention of e.g. the band's website or the myspace profile is usually sufficent for an acoustic impression.
You can send us promotion material but unfortunately we can't send it back.

Every year more bands have the wish to perform on stage than we eventually can place in the program.Therfore we ask you to understand that we don't accept applications from bands which already performed in last year's stage program. This regulation helps to increase the chance for other artists to be part of the festival as well.
